At the origin of the group, MATHEZ FREIGHT is a family-run company founded in  Nice in 1950.  Freight forwarder, customs broker and shipping agent, MATHEZ FREIGHT has become a major independent freight forwarding company in France with 16 branches providing a full coverage of France and Monaco, and a powerful network: selected partners in 191 countries share our business philosophy of quality service at competitive price.

Accredited by all major international freight organizations, and enjoying “AEO-Full” status since 2013, MATHEZ FREIGHT has reached a unique position, where buying power meets with flexibility . We offer a wide range of services including air freight, sea freight and multimodal transport for traditional industries, marine industries and prestige clientele. We offer a particular expertise in customs and VAT compliance.

1950

The origins


Correspondant SNCF dans le fret national, Raoul Mathez crée la société MATHEZ TRANSPORTS INTERNATIONAUX en 1950. Implantée au cœur du vieux Nice, l’entreprise construit sa réputation sur l’expédition de fleurs fraîches, à l’époque où le célèbre marché aux fleurs représentait l’essentiel du trafic aérien niçois.

Growing up fast

Over time, activities expand. The company becomes a freight forwarder and then a customs broker. Goods from all over Europe, coming by road, and mainly from Italy are cleared by MATHEZ FREIGHT , which becomes the first Nice company to organize groupage on Milan. The company soon becomes the preferred freight forwarder for Grasse manufacturers as well as exhibitors at French Riviera trade fairs. It opens an agency at Roissy-CDG airport.

1990

Building new ambitions

In 1986, Pierre Mathez, son of Raoul Mathez, takes over the management of the company with his wife Brigitte and Marc Fagnen. Aware of the need to expand and ensure a national network, the company in Nice decided toopen branches in all the main ports and airports in France, to strengthen the export air service, and to develop services dedicated to the specific markets of the French Riviera. It also adapted its offers to the new European context and invested in the creation of an international network of independent agents.

Developing specialized services

The extremely volatile regulatory environment, the intensification of cross-border flows and technological developments create new risks for companies operating internationally. MATHEZ FREIGHT sets up expert services to support and assist its customers with the maze of regulations, and pursues its development in France to offer local contacts and specialized services.
